Summary
If you placed a Summit request in Sherlock, but you can't find it in your Library Account, it's possible that the request was transferred to Interlibrary Loan (ILL). Check your InterLibrary Loan account to see if your request is still active.

Why this happens
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is our backup for Summit. When we can't get an item you requested through Summit, the request goes to the much larger ILL network. When the request goes from Summit to ILL, it will disappear from your account. If you're ever uncertain about what happened to a request, you can double check your ILL account.

How to check your ILL Account
Go to the library home page and click on the InterLibrary Loan link. Look under the Outstanding Requests tab to see if your request is there. If we can't get the title in a reasonable amount of time we will cancel your request or check in with you. If you have any concerns about the request, please contact ill@whitman.edu.

If you still can't find your request
There are many reasons this could happen, including:
  • We cancelled your ILL request, because we couldn't get it.
  • We sent you an email about the ILL request, because we needed more information.
  • Your item arrived at the holdshelf, but was sent back to the owning library after 7 days.
A good first step is checking your email for updates from ill@whitman.edu. If we haven't already contacted you about the item, you can place a new request, email ill@whitman.edu or ask for help at the Circulation Desk.
